Keeping the attention of middle school science students can be challenging, but on days when I have the lab trays on their team tables, they are fully engaged and work together to complete the experiment. I teach both 7th and 8th grade science, focusing on a variety of standards from Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. My limited yearly budget for supplies ($75) does not allow for a lot of science equipment that goes beyond the basics. Hands-on activities really help my students tap into their natural curiosity and understand the more abstract concepts, such as sound and light. The UV flashlights, prisms, and tuning forks will allow them to really experience firsthand how energy behaves and how it travels. By seeing, and hearing, the energy for themselves, they will be able to explain and apply this new scientific knowledge. I would appreciate any help you can give to make these activities a reality.
