As a rural county school, funding for reading materials is limited. This is narrowing the perspectives and experiences of my students severely. Adding to their aged textbooks a selection of modern literature from the exciting genre of Young Adult Literature would enrich thier experience by reading a novel that they can relate to because of the ages of the protagonists. My students need to understand their experiences and relevance to the world as a whole and not be confined to views just outside their back door. The books would be used for in-class reading by the students assigned to the reading. Holding the physical book, rather than using digital devices, keeps the student focused on the task at hand and less distracted by the temptation to view social media or the internet.
