I am determined to encourage my students to WANT to read and know that it is not just something that they HAVE to do. Reading should be fun and engaging, which is why I want to have some of these literacy games in my classroom. There's no better gift than learning how to read, and there's no better way to teach reading than through games. The average attention span of a 5-year-old is roughly 15 minutes. I want the students to be fully engaged during those 15 minutes and what better way to do so than to play a FUN literacy game! These games, like alphabet bingo and word puzzles, will be used during flex groups, free time, and for students who finish their work early. The goal of the games will be to help improve print concept skills, sight word fluency, phonemic awareness, and phonological awareness.
