I currently run an after-school program that teaches students the fundamentals of sewing. Students spend 2 hours a week, working on creating their own projects. My students have been able to show school pride and stand out at school with their custom made drawstring backpacks, binder covers, pencil pouches and scarves. Your donations will help me get more sewing machines and thread. My students currently have to double up on machines which cuts their work time in half. I would love for them to be able to work individually on a machine. I have been able to obtain supplies with the help of personal friends and my own funds. However, anyone who is into arts and crafts knows how expensive creativity can be and I would like to continue to run the program without having my students provide their own supplies and materials. Many families in this Chicago neighborhood face financial and other community struggles daily, and I wouldn't want financial hardship keeping any of my students from participating in this after-school program.
