STEAM students are constantly thinking through problems faced in the real world and coming up with creative solutions. They are encouraged to inquire, explore, and innovate. This year we will be building robots to model those that are working to clean up a toxic waste spill in Japan, we will be engineering model machines to rescue an animal in danger, and we will be designing an energy efficient device to assist workers in moving heavy objects a long distance. I want to give them the opportunity to explore something brand new: programming robots. With the opportunity to use a SPHERO, my students will have the chance to extend what the STEAM curriculum has to offer and explore an entirely new field that they may be interested in pursuing as they grow in their education.
