I have selected the book 'Wonder' by R.J. Palacio for my students to read for our book club. Wonder is about a boy named August who was born with a facial deformity who has started attending mainstream school. This novel follows "Auggie" as he navigates convincing his new classmates that he is just like them--an ordinary kid with an extraordinary face. It is an "Uplifting novel full of wonderfully realistic family interactions, lively school scenes, and writing that shines with spare emotional power." Reading this amazing novel will allow my students to enhance and improve their articulation, reading, receptive language, and expressive language skills! Your support of this WONDERful project will provide a fun and safe space for these students to thrive, discuss topics of interest, and communicate with peers and adults that they would not otherwise. I will provide monthly updates as to how the student's are progressing, what their new insights are, and how this book has impacted their lives!
