With these materials, a huge difference can be made in this school. We will be running special education groups, as well as social academic instructional groups and hope to create a physical environment that reflects my purpose at this school. Having a place to come and deescalate and decompress is 100% necessary for these 560 children, grades PK-8th. Creating a trauma-informed, person-centered curriculum and physical environment is the number one social work goal. Empowering our youth is the most critical piece in early intervention, and with these tools, we can reach many. Some ways we will use the materials include the following: Jenga -We will write different empowering and conversation-stimulating words on the blocks and as they are pulled, our students will follow with what comes into mind. Bean Bag Chair - Relaxation corner. Undergarments/clothing - for children who do not have access to these necessities. Detergent - to do some of our students' laundry when smells or accidents happen. Organizational tools - create flow and organization in the office. Therapy tools/toys/games - group games/calming interventions/mindfulness.
