In the past ten years, the number of children's books published about diverse populations has been continually increasing. While there is still work to be done, there are more and more authors working to elevate all cultures, religions, and groups of people. Students need well-written stories that reflect their culture and heritage. Imagine walking into a classroom library and not seeing a single book with a character who looks like you. This project will help fill my EL classroom with new, beautiful books that are representative of my incredibly diverse group of students. I am confident that diversifying my library will show students that their culture is valued while making them better readers.
