Last year, I had a student make the GMEA Sight Reading Chorus. This is made up of the top sight-readers in high school in the state of Georgia. If you don't know, sight-reading is when you look at a new piece of music for the first time and sing/play it with minimal preparation. The director asked the students how many of them played the piano, 80% of the choir raised their hands. Currently, we are being encouraged to find new ways to teach singers music. Teaching piano would be hugely beneficial.
