Each of these books will be available for students to use to read independently while learning about the Civil Rights movement of the sixties and how it applies to our world today in our middle school's first inclusive classroom being co-designed by a general ELA teacher, an ELD teacher, and a SPED teacher. With these new books our students will be able to engage in a curriculum designed to address academic content while also leading students to become critical thinkers who have an understanding of their power to change the world. While we do not know whether we will have a distance learning, in class, or hybrid model these books will be the texts we use regardless and we are working to develop different methods of teaching for each potential model of schooling this fall.
