The majority of my students over the years have been Spanish speaking. There have been numerous times where I would like to share a funny moment from the day or to relay important information about critical incidents, etc., and the language difference is an unfortunate barrier. Due to my desire to connect more effectively with the families that I serve, I have taken Spanish classes in the past. It has been extremely helpful in strengthening my relationships with children and families. There are many times when the translator is unavailable and I am called to help with Spanish speaking parents. Even though my knowledge is limited, I occasionally can bridge the gap between families and our staff and that feels awesome. It will be a wonderful and life-changing experience being able to better understand my families and communicate with them more effectively. In an effort to do that, I would like to take Spanish classes in the Spring of 2020 at Alamance Community College.
