The more hands-on learning that takes place in the classroom, the more actual learning takes place. Showing students how solar power makes something work is one thing, letting them build it themselves is a whole other thing. Students who study how pea plants become tall or wrinkly is nice but checking to see if you can taste a genetic trait, is a whole new experience. Learning today is about the experiences that can engage our senses to the fullest. It isn't always about how to get the right answer, it is about perseverance and not giving up, and using past experiences to help us solve the problem. The world of tomorrow is harder to plan for and technology and learning to critically think and make good decisions begins in my classroom where the stakes are lower but the experiences are memory making! It is learning how to get there that matters more!
