The Power Pens within my small math groups cater to students learning and needs by allowing them to connect what they SEE with what they HEAR. Providing total physical response and catering to different learning types helps students to better retain the information they are learning. Without hands on learning tools such as the magnetic math kit, students have trouble making connection with what they're learning. However, with these tools students can take accountability in their learning by keeping them academically engaged, providing rigor with visualizations which also helps English Language Learners as well as understanding and retaining the content they are learning. The "Talk About Text" helps to keep students focused on not just reading but reading with a purpose. These cards will also help to guide class discussion ensuring that we remain on task and standard aligned.
