This year we began a new EL curriculum and with that, there have been a variety of learning opportunities for students for learning, including, listening and also creating their own audio books to then present to their parents, as well as other staff and students in our school. I want to give them every opportunity to shine and succeed daily, and having 20 headphones for the two classes of 40 students, will allow them to focus on their specific goals without distracting others, and help them get excited about each class. Throughout our two hour literacy block each day, we have one hour of whole group instruction that is split up into direct instruction, partner and group work, as well as independent work. During the second part of the block, called our Additional Language Learning (ALL) Block, the students each have three opportunities to advance their learning through: small group, independent reading, fluency, partner work, as well as other activities. The headphones would be ideal for situations when students are listening to individualized lessons that I assign them specifically for their needs, using the microphone on these headphones to record their reading for fluency, or for reading audio books for additional learning. The students LOVE our ALL Block part of our class. These headphones would elevate the literacy blocks for two classes and I'm confident this will help students be even more excited for learning, as well as using these for the online resources we use to prepare them for more complex texts and comprehension questions.
