Students will use these xylophones to expand the sound of the band. Playing mallet instruments allows students to learn how to read music notes and contribute a unique sound to the group. Many students love playing the xylophone because it is similar to the piano. They enjoy using it before and after school to practice songs they hear from TV shows, video games, and movies. The xylophone is a fun and challenging instrument that gets students excited to join band. Adding the sounds of a xylophone to a band allows for the group to play more advanced pieces. Having students play the xylophone also allows for more students to choose percussion as an instrument option. I will be taking students to music competitions at Knott's Berry Farm, Disneyland, and San Diego where a xylophone is an important instrument that will be played in the pieces at these performances. It is important that students have access to a xylophone to practice this music.
