Students want to take charge of their learning in the art room. In their art studio, students are able to choose what they want to create. They can choose to work in different areas of the room depending on what materials they want to use. They can choose from drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, clay, printmaking, and fibers. Throughout the year I introduce skills and techniques for them to use in these mediums and allow the students to make their own decisions in their artwork. One method of sharing these skills that I've found is through YouTube videos. My students think it's so fun that I create and upload videos just for them. Chromebooks would allow my students to work at their own pace and develop their artistic skills in a flexible way. Having Chromebooks in my room will let my students work in their sketchbooks to practice a technique from a video of mine they choose, and then be able to apply that technique to their artwork. When my students are given choice, their creativity skyrockets, and having Chromebooks will help foster this.
