During the class period for grades 2 through 5 students are listening to audiobook recordings of novels. The bean bag chairs we had were thrown away this summer by the custodial crew because of how damaged they were, unfortunately. They really miss having them, and I miss letting them relax and enjoy the stories! The comfort of the students while reading is substantial to their engagement with the book. They are much more likely to be following along and fully immersed in the text when listening. We miss our chairs dearly and hope that we can be lucky enough to get a new set someday soon! A lot of these students don't have the time or opportunity to read at home, so coming to school and being in the library is their only time to be transferred into a world of pure imagination.
