I'm seeking to incorporate bicycle pedals into my reading instruction. Research unanimously supports the linkage of physical activity and cognitive functioning. Many of my students find great difficulty in literacy and benefit greatly from additional tools to help them engage. When their bodies are moving, my students are able to better access instruction and literacy practice. Monitoring their "engine," or energy levels, is a regular part of our practice. Giving students an easily accessible mode of physical activity frees their brains and bodies up to engage in ways otherwise not possible. As adults, we get the freedom and choice to shape our work environments to optimize our output, help me do the same for my students.
