Not only will my 7th grade students have a range of needs and abilities, but I also anticipate having students who have already developed strong feelings about math. Unfortunately, many students, like myself in Junior High, have had negative experiences with math. These experiences often lead to negative attitudes, poor motivation, and a fixed mindset. It is my goal to inspire my students to learn to LOVE math and build their confidence and skills by providing them time to play math games. A fantastic coworker of mine introduced me to the importance of math games, and I have seen great success with my 4th and 5th graders this year. Since I am moving to a new building, I will no longer have access to these math games. I plan to purchase a variety of games for my future 7th graders. I am confident that providing my students access to these games will lead to positive attitudes, increased motivation, and a growth mindset.
