After essentially being home for a year and a half, my students need juicy, interesting books to engage them during independent reading in order to increase their fluency, rigor, and focus. We know how much we as teachers have relied on screens, and students have done the same, which means it will be hard to read anything but what they are interested in reading. In an effort to help students with reading perseverance and focus, I am trying my best to replace older, less interesting books with these books they've requested. It will help bring diversity to the AP program with the class set of Homegoing (a beautiful book) and it will increase their excitement about reading because they've asked for the other books. I have a feeling some of them are on Book Tok, which I am absolutely fine with! Thank you in advance for assisting me in doing whatever possible to get students excited about this year and build on the skills that we were unable to utilize much of last year.
