Students with autism benefit from a quiet, secure work space with predictable schedules and consistent expectations. By creating a dedicated, defined work space that is free of distractions, students feel secure and safe. A highly structured and organized environment is the first building block in helping students with autism find success in their school setting. My classroom utilizes the TEACCH method of instruction with considerable discrete trial instruction and ABA. Much of these instructional delivery methods are provided 1:1 and need dedicated spaces for each student. and their para-professional. These children have so much potential to learn and succeed. They just need to be afforded the optimum environment to do so.
