I want my students to interact in a space where they’re comfortable enough to be authentic and have real conversations about their lives. Flexible seating gives students autonomy in a setting where they are constantly feeling powerless. Students must feel welcomed and that the community we are creating together is a home for them within the school. The beauty of this class is that it is flexible – it caters to their individual questions and needs all whiling building skills that they feel and know are beneficial to them and their post-secondary success. I want to create a space where they can grab a laptop and sit in a cozy corner to explore interview etiquette, where other students can be engaging and critiquing one another in a round table mock-interview. The use of flexible seating will aid in the facilitation of discussions about topics that students are knowingly apprehensive about since they will be provided with a choice in their physical space to support their psychological growth and exploration.
