High school-aged students must learn to navigate an ever-evolving system of learning that involves increasing mental and emotional demands, higher expectations, quickly evolving technologies and a higher rate and volume of high stakes testing. Yoga and other mindfulness practices are essential for the health and well-being of students, affecting their ability to focus and balance the demands of their lives. The Peaceful Warriors Yoga Project will fund a classroom set of yoga mats and blocks to assure my students have access to proper equipment for safe and effective yoga practice as part of their dance curriculum. Students who are given a variety of tools for social-emotional learning and strategies for stress management are more likely to feel centered and stay focused at school. This project will provide Yoga mats & blocks to allow students to explore Yoga practice to support the social-emotional learning that occurs in the dance classroom by empowering students to slow down and develop a mindfulness practice amidst the stress of adolescence.
