I teach a required, year-long Arts and Humanities class. The students who take this class are those who haven't taken any other art classes, so they don't usually come to me with an innate love of art or desire to learn about other cultures. This year I have no budget. If I want my students to learn anything in a hands-on, engaging manner then I have to provide the materials for them. An art class without the opportunity to create and experience what we learn about isn't fun or interesting for anyone. I am doing my best to provide as much as I can for my students but they deserve more than what I am financially able to give them. The opportunity for my students to experiment with watercolor paint on real watercolor paper will allow them to step into the experiences of the artists that we study from Albrecht Durer in the Northern Renaissance to Georgia O'Keeffe of the American Southwest. I have requested a large amount of paint and paper so that each of my students will be able to create multiple pieces of art. Rather than limiting them to one or two pieces I want them to see what they can create throughout the year as they learn and grow. In addition, I would like them to have brushes that won't fall apart and the means to take care of and store our new supplies.
