My fifth grade students love to read and are always ecstatic to receive new books. Earlier this year, when two students received new books as a gift they made the choice to stay in from recess so they could read together! A love of reading supports a love of learning! The problem is that my students do not always have access to books at home. 89% of the students in our school come from low-income families, and 50% are considered English Learners. Without access to books at home, they don't even get the option to choose learning over other activities. My goal is to provide my students with more books that they can call their own. I want these books to be interesting and provide them with an opportunity to see the world through someone else's eyes. Please consider donating to support my students' access to books at home!
