Some students need to move; they need to expand their learning space in order to expand their learning minds. A warm soft rug will give my kids a place in the room where they can stretch out and complete their work in a patch of sunlight, or sit on a flexible floor seat when they need to move again! Scooter boards provide another movement option, yet also keeps my kids low to the ground and safe as they listen during reading time, or relax for a well earned movement break. Seating options and places to learn give my students ways to stay engaged in the learning process. These options also provide them a much needed sense of control in their worlds when they get to choose to sit here, or to sit there, when they complete an assignment. And finally, such equipment in our room will give us all a space to come together and learn how to be better peers, better friends, and kinder members of our community as we collaborate on fun projects, engage in social skill building, and work to make ourselves and our world a little better each and every day.
