This Children's Book Project has given the students a unique opportunity to express themselves. We have been working on the writing process an authentic way - taking time to think through step by step brainstorming stories, characters, and plot lines as a class, and in small groups throughout this semester. Each student is creating their own individual picture book - text and illustrations. The blank books and brush pens will be used to enable each student to create a realistic final project children's book. To prepare and and support students in this writing process I have presented 3 to 4 examples of highly rated picture books every week for the past 3 months. We discuss plot lines, illustration detail and purpose, content and language, audience, and author's purpose while examining each of these children's book examples. I have had check-in points along the way for students to submit through the drafting process: Plot line one pagers, Character conflict quick writes, and storyboards of all elements of plot. The final products are due before the Christmas break. All final projects will be displayed in our school library for the entire school to enjoy!
