Students will share personal messages with their classmates for their birthdays in a cup filled with care and excitement. Just as adults feel, when children know they are cared for, appreciated, and respected; it builds confidence, makes them feel valued, and creates a positive and safe classroom community. Children who feel celebrated and accepted are more willing to participate in activities, and it increases engagement. In my classroom, I promote kindness, empathy, and community. Children are also able to learn concepts when it is modeled to them. Energy builds upon energy, and if they are immersed in positive energy, considering any challenges, it will produce more positive energy. I am creating a project that allows children to share something special about each other and have stories to relate to on their birthdays in hopes it serves as a model they will use throughout their lives. Children will learn strategies and behaviors to continue to demonstrate kindness towards their peers.
