My special education students needs vary; but a strong need in the area of test taking and vocabulary skills is evident across all domains. My students love to read about science topics and the library within the school does not have a strong astrology section. A love of reading and building their vocabulary is what I try to foster yearly and I would love to have books that hold their interest and that I could use to help create strong foundations in their vocabulary skillset. Struggling readers usually choose books with larger pictures, or are in their areas of interest because they already have some prior knowledge about the topic. This allows them to feel more confident while reading. I would love to provide a larger selection for the students to browse through and help create stronger readers that love learning. I know this will improve their vocabulary bank and help further their phonics understanding!
