Having a diverse classroom requires having a diverse classroom library full of characters that students can relate to! My students need to be reading books that make them say, "This person is just like me!" This will help students who do not have a strong desire to read because they will feel they are personally benefitting from stories that reflect their own experiences and/or obstacles. As they read stories about people of color and/or difficult circumstances, they will feel more capable of conquering their own battles and having a growth mindset on their journey towards academic success.

About my class
