Our students are part of a Real Life Behavior program. At the beginning of the school year, students are given checking accounts. Each month they are given a paycheck and must write the bank a check for "Rent and Utilities". Throughout the nine weeks, students will write checks for missing assignments, poor behavior and missing materials. As a reward, teachers give bonus checks for students who show responsible behavior, good grades, and kindness. At the end of each nine weeks, we have an auction where students can use their pretend money to buy real items. This is where we need help. Financial Literacy and real world applications are what make this program work. We have been running this successful program for almost ten years. In the past, we have been able to receive financial literacy grants, but here recently, they have been more difficult to find. Being able to connect real world situations to our 7th grade students is an eye opening experience for them, and truly is a positive program.
