Collaboration and cooperation are the hallmarks of my classroom. Students work in pairs or partner groups throughout the day. Flexible seating allows students to work together in a close setting. They will have a dedicated space to work on projects that last multiple days. Flexibility in where groups work will allow them to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, the coffee table and indoor/outdoor table that I have selected will be utilized by students who work best while moving and/or standing (the bar height table) or by students who need space away from distractions (the low table). Currently my students have other seating options including on floor pillows or on the floor with clipboards. I feel like I need more options, especially for those students who need to stand. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating and feel this is one area I can continue to offer more options in. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices both independently and when working with a partner or group. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help them be even more successful.
