Using real writing examples only enhances students' learning! These books will not only help me teach reading and writing skills but will also foster the social/emotional lessons needed for my students. They get to take their imaginations for a ride and learn about all kinds of people, places, things, and feelings. Talking about their books with their peers, as well as myself, allow them to share a bit of themselves and what they learn. What are we going to read next? I love when you read aloud! What is your favorite book? Can I free write? I get multiple questions/statements like this every day. I love that my students enjoy both reading and writing. I want to give them so many more opportunities to choose the literature they love. We all know the more we read, the more we learn. Not only reading skills or new ideas/topics, but their writing improves as well. It's a win-win!
