When students enter my 6th grade language arts classroom, they know that they are a part of something much bigger...a school "family" that is welcoming, supportive, and celebrates all successful individuals. Part of creating an inviting classroom means establishing a space conducive for learning. Students learn best when their needs are met. When a classroom provides flexibility, choice, collaborative structures, and stability, students experience greater growth and success. Flexible seating, such as The Surf, will encourage adaptable collaborative groupings for research projects, student choice for a suitable learning space, and opportunities to make their learning mobile...inside and outside the school's four walls.
