LEGOs offer so many options to teach concepts in a fun and exciting way. My students love working with LEGOs. I need various size of Legos to best meet all the needs of my various students abilities. These are great for hands on math centers and STEM activities we do daily and weekly in the classroom. One way I will use LEGOs is in math centers teaching the concept of greater than, less than, and equal. Students will build towers of certain numbers to see greater than, less than, and equal. For some of my students, it will be teaching the concept of patterns. This is great for these students it is an educational concept while working on fine motor skills, which is very difficult for most of my students. Engineer creativity! During STEM centers, I will use the LEGOs for my students to engineer animals, cars, unique types of transportation, houses, and habitats. I have MEGA blocks in my room but need smaller LEGOs to help offer variety of options to all my students. LEGOs are great fine motor skill activities and provide a great opportunity for students to express themselves. They are always so excited to show myself and the teacher assistants what they have made. This is a great way for them to work on vocabulary as well!
