I currently have two metallophones, and four xylophones (two of which need repair work) available in our elementary music department. Unfortunately, I’m not able to incorporate these Orff instruments in my lessons as often as I would like, because I have to utilize a rotation of students at the instruments. This allows each kiddo a short opportunity to play, but it takes a big chunk of time out of our period. Adding to our collection would enrich their learning experience by providing more contact time with these tuned percussion instruments. By increasing each student’s playing time, his/her skill level would also increase accordingly. This would allow for more complex and rich experiences, including independent performance and composition opportunities.
