I selected a variety of new materials for my students. All of the materials will enhance their learning within the following areas: creative play, math, STEM, language and literacy, social and emotional, and fine motor. The students are assessed in all of the above areas through the HighScope curriculum. ECERS 3 requires a secondary play theme. Play themes must be rotated according to interest. On average a new play theme needs to be introduced every three weeks. That is why themes were selected: grocery store, doctor, ice cream shop, and nursery. The new materials will be beneficial to all students. Along with increasing my students learning, some of the materials will also be used as modifications for a number of my students such as: small pencils, pencils grips, fidget toys, adaptive scissors, seat cushions, etc. Not all of my students are exposed to such materials at home which has an impact on their learning. My students are in need of new materials to allow them to be creative in a different way. With budget cuts over the years it is very difficult to purchase new materials. Preschool children need to be exposed to new materials to hold their attention and to increase their desire to be learn. Preschool age children learn through play. The classroom materials along with play themes must be desirable and hold their interest. Materials will also be used during small group times, as well.
