The students have recently shown interest in the role playing game Dungeons and Dragons. The sponsors have been bringing in personal books for the students to use. The problem is we need more books, a lot more books. The sponsors only have a few of the source books; the goal is to get at least one Player's Guide and Monster Manual for every two students, and a few more Dungeon Master Guides for the groups. We have also requested a few adventure modules with the goal of eventually guiding the students in creating their own stories. The role playing helps some the more introverted students to socialize with peers, and all the students develop skills useful in future careers such as communication, creative problem solving, and team work. My co-sponsor noticed how quickly the students learned how to locate information using indexes and table of contents. The students also gain reading comprehension skills and mathematical skills.
