Today I was fortunate to attend a music professional development session where I had the opportunity to play a tubano, keeping the beat while the rest of the music teachers chanted a spoken poem, even as other music teachers played other percussion instruments. I felt like I was the underlining pulse to the performance. I immediately thought how exciting it would be for my students to be able to play the tubanos and keep the beat and play other rhythms to the songs that I teach them from a variety of cultures. With the tubanos my students will be able to feel the beat of many songs, poems or raps that I teach the students and make the music come alive!!

About my class
