I am an occupational therapist (OT) for an under-served population in California. Often, these students on my caseload fall behind because of a lack of support. I am hoping to make take-home kits to give to families to help them achieve their goals in areas of self-regulation, fine motor skills, and handwriting. I will send an instruction sheet home to the parents teaching them about how to use the items in the OT kit that I create to support goals their children are working on in school. For example, if a student has trouble with bilateral hand coordination (using two hands to participate in an activity) I will explain, step-by-step, how to use the kit to complete an activity with their child that involves bilateral coordination. This support will progress student access to education curriculum. Having students work on OT related goals with their parents not only increases practice time for students, but also fosters parent involvement with their child and goals for occupational therapy. Therapy is much more beneficial with increased practice and parent and staff support. I have started making kits to take home to parents to help with their challenges at school. However, I have run out of financial resources to make more kits and I need your help! If you can, please help me achieve this goal and accelerate students' progress in these areas!
