It is expetced that students transitioning to the next grade level willn have all the skills and knowledge necessary to take on any challenges that the next level presents to them. Very often, it is not the case. Students need varying activities to help build the necessary literacy foundations in Math and Reading to be successful and confident scholars. Today's students have to be able to make inferences, find key details in texts, compare and contrast paired texts that they read. In Math, they need to have the ability to compose and decompose numbers and make sense of word problems to determine what operation is needed. In order to explain their thinking and solutions, students need strong foundational skills. In order to accomplish these tasks, students need a variety of activities to commit their new found knowledge into their long term memory. Fun and entertaining activities give students a different way of obtaining this knowledge and skills.
