This year for reading groups, we are starting book clubs. This club will be student centered. The students will read a book outside of the book club meeting time, take notes on sticky notes, and then they will talk about the reading and notes when they come to book club. Book clubs will help students take charge of their learning and help them to work together as communicators and collaborators. Most importantly, this book club will continue to grow their desire and love for reading. Fostering this type of community would help our students improve their reading scores. The students will be leading the discussions, which is a great way for them to demonstrate their learning and thinking. In order to make our book club effective and successful, we need books for our “Wildcats” readers. We also need sticky notes for the kids to take notes while independently reading and to organize their thinking when they are in book clubs. We are excited to get these materials and begin our book clubs.
