Being a first year teacher, I am learning best practice for teaching 6th grade content as I go. Over the first 10 weeks of school, I have noticed a need for manipulatives in my math classroom. Manipulatives would help my students to better understand their math work. I have some students in my class who would greatly benefit from manipulatives being in our room. At the beginning of the year, I asked my students to take an assessment that determined what "type" of intelligence they are. Many of my students were Bodily Kinesthetic Learners, meaning they feel they learn best in a hands-on environment. These manipulatives would be the perfect opportunity for my kids to do some hands-on math!
