I want to create a space within my classroom that students can go to if they start to feel overwhelmed or anxious. This space will be a corner in the room where students can go to deescalate or work on emotion regulation strategies. I currently teach the Jesse Lewis Choose Love curriculum in our classroom; I want to go above and beyond teaching the lessons and create a physical space where students can practice calming strategies. This space will also be great for students who have experienced trauma because it gives them a chance to relax in this space and use an emotion board that I already have that helps the student communicate how they are feeling if they don't have the words to describe it yet. These materials will be used to create a place that will help my students feel like they are in a safe, learning environment even more than they hopefully already do!
