There are so many tools that are available on a mobile device that are just too expensive to buy piece by piece. With the addition of the class set of Samsung tablets, my students will have access to an application called Google Science Journal. This journal not only allows them to keep notes on their experiments and take pictures, it allows them to use tools that are available through the mobile device's sensors. Google Science Journal allows students to measure light intensity, volume of sound, pitch of sound, acceleration, movement in the x,y, and z directions, and barometric pressure (just to name a few). This application uses the sensors in the mobile device to essentially turn the mobile device into the ultimate data collector and graph maker. Students can then record these measurements and return to the graphs from anywhere they can access Google Drive and analyze them. This will allow the students to graphically see what is happening so they can fully understand how what they are doing effects the experiment.
