Each month a local author will be featured at our school. The authors are specifically chosen because the characters represent the ethnicities of our students and/or the books align with our magnet themes of leadership, environmental, and health sciences. This project provides opportunities for students to see themselves reflected in the books they read, to increase reading engagement, and to inspire intrigue around environmental studies. Students will have leadership roles to give book talks on the featured books for our school news. The books will then be showcased in our library for students to check out. This project also supports our local community because it highlights local authors in our state.
