It is powerful to see yourself reflected in picture books and it is also powerful to see into a world that might be unfamiliar to you. The reason these children’s books were selected is that they focus on multiple perspectives. These books provide students a guide in discovering themselves and the world. Diverse books allow students to learn from other people’s experiences. Authentic literature is at the heart of students’ understanding of the human experience.
