Many of my students have struggled with reading for so many years, so the task of reading is often overwhelming, frustrating and discouraging. I want to help my students develop the love of reading by giving them books, on their level. Books that will feed the desire to learn more, consequently boosting their comprehension, accuracy, and fluency. Struggling readers often pick up a comic book or graphic novel because the pictures and visuals are less intimidating than a typical book. Students who read these graphic novels find reading fun and begin to read more for enjoyment! Students in my classroom like to read about superheroes and villains. My classroom doesn't have a large collection of books, so I would like to have books that will hold their interests and keep them reading in my classroom. The more positive experiences they have with reading, the more excited they will be to open a book of their own choosing. These books will be used in teaching small groups or for individual choice. Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is the perfect way to build better readers.
