I am asking for your support in purchasing curriculum for classroom lessons and small groups. Students will develop mindsets and behaviors that lead to accepting responsibility, self-confidence in ability to succeed, apply self-motivation and self-direction to learning, demonstrate self-discipline and self-control, demonstrate effective coping skills when faced with a problem, among other lesson goals. The goal is also for students to reduce discipline referrals as they receive the counselor's services and support with these lessons. Our students require instruction in social emotional learning to build resiliency due to what they are faced with outside of school. Many come from disadvantaged backgrounds where social skills are not taught due to parents being too busy working several jobs to make ends meet or for various other reasons that parents are absent from a student’s life. The Strong Kids curriculum will support students in removing barriers to learning as part of our counseling core curriculum, intended for all students as recommended by the American School Counselors Association (ASCA). The Self Regulation and Mindfulness Exercises and Worksheets as well as the LAC storybook will provide material for small group interventions as they learn to manage stress/anxiety and other barriers to learning. These materials will be used and implemented by a licensed school counselor to help students gain coping skills and self-management skills to become their best self.
