I am hoping to continue to help my students grow as readers this year by continuing to expand on the genres of books that they are reading. I have chosen the historical fiction book The War That Saved My Life, for many reasons. First, the story is high interest and exposes students to events in history, World War II England, and it has a social justice component that students are able to relate to, a young girl with a disability. There are so many different avenues to teach this book, I am so excited to put one in each students' hands, not just do as a read-aloud. This will offer a higher level of engagement and understand for all students. Offering students a flexible seating option during the day is highly beneficial for those students who need to get up and move during the day. It allows students to still participate in the lessons/activities that are being presented in a more comfortable space. Especially when we are working on literacy, giving students a comfortable space to sit is essential for engagement.
